In the wake of growing tribe of cow vigilantes, Deputy Commissioner G Sathyavathi has directed the police, revenue, transport, urban development and animal husbandry departments to work in tandem to check the vested interests in taking law into their hands.

Presiding over a meeting on animal sacrifice in violation of law, the DC made a mention of some miscreants and organisations indulging in destructive activities in the name of protecting cows. The number of complaints on sacrificing animals in public places, especially during festivals, is increasing. The officials should also take adequate measures to check such practices, she added.

Sathyavathi also appealed to the people to tip off either police or the  nearby magistrate in case of such incidences.

She directed the authorities to set up check posts across the district to check transportation of cattle, which she felt as a key to check slaughtering of animals. In addition to this, illegal slaughter houses should be identified and action should be initiated against them, she told the officials.

At taluk level, tahsildars should convene meetings and implement related laws in toto, she stated.

Additional Deputy Commissioner M R Vaishali, District Wakf Officer Aijaz Pasha, Information Officer B Manjunath and other officials attended the meeting.
