State launches Silver Chariot, Southern Splendour

On the launch of ‘Silver Chariot’ by the Karnataka State Tourism Department Corporation (KSTDC) the Minister said, “We are giving an option to the people who wanted to experience the beauty of Karnataka comfortably but could not afford it.”

Travellers will be given all comforts on their six-night, seven-day tour in an A/C volvo bus, he stressed. The first trip will commence on April 2 this year and bookings can be done on www.karnatakaholidays.net from March 10, 2010.

The minister also inaugurated ‘Southern Splendour’, 7-night, 8-day tour of the Golden Chariot through temples, beaches and  heritage spots in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala.

The ongoing trip of ‘Golden Chariot’ through Karnataka christened as ‘Pride of the South’ will alternate every week with Southern Splendour.

KSTDC Managing Director Vinay Luthra said that there were 35 confirmed bookings for the first trip of Southern Splendour. The first trip will commence on March 15 and bookings can be done on www.goldenchariot.org

Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy also said that a new package ‘Jewel of the South’ was still being worked out and hopes to begin operations from the financial year 2011-2012. “It aims to connect Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and talks are on with the railways in this connection.”
