Last Updated 08 March 2010, 19:12 IST

Hearing a petition by Shyamsundar, seeking a change in the reservation of Basavanapura (ward 53) and Vijinapura (ward 51), the division bench comprising Justice Gopalagowda and Justice B S Patil dismissed the petition saying it cannot interfere with the election process.

The petitioner had submitted that the Basavanapura ward, with a population of 22,012, has 4,115 people belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and the Vijinapura ward, with a population of 35,087, has 6,236 SC members. He contended that while the former with 18.69 percent population was declared as general category, the latter with 18.39 percent was reserved for SC category. The Court cited various judgements in connection with Gujarat and Ahmedabad polls and dismissed the petition.
