The High Court on Thursday granted a stay on the proceedings initiated against former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy. Kumaraswamy had approached the court to quash proceedings against him in the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Chikkaballapur during the 2014 elections.

The complainant, S S Abid had lodged a complaint against Kumaraswamy accusing him of blocking the road and causing inconvenience to the public during the 2014 election campaign.

Abid had lodged the complaint before the Chikkaballapur town police. Senior counsel, D L Jagadeesh, appearing for the petitioner, contended that registering a complaint in the police station is bad in law. Justice Anand Byrareddy granted stay on the proceedings and adjourned the hearing.
