Matters of the mind

Mount Carmel College recently hosted ‘N-Cortex’, a national conference on neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. The event, organised by the department of psychology, saw eminent speakers and participants from around the country.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr P Satishchandra, former director and vice-chancellor, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, on the awareness and prevention of ageing and dementia. Other notable speakers were Dr Roopesh B N, associate professor, department of clinical psychology, NIMHANS; Dr Arun Shashidhar, senior research officer and research program manager, Axxonet Brain Research Laboratory (ABRL); Mohini Vijay, psychologist and research officer, Axxonet System Technologies Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru; and Dr Jamuna Rajeswaran, professor, department of clinical psychology, NIMHANS. Dr Madhavi Rangaswamy, associate professor, department of psychology, Christ University, and Dr Gopukumar Kumarpillai, neuropsychologist at Bangalore Neuro Centre, were the other speakers at the event.

The audience was engaged in interactions on various topics such as neuropsychological retraining, brain plasticity, research, visual memory dysfunction, depression and many others.

The seminar was followed by paper presentations from psychology and neuroscience enthusiasts, who had gathered at the venue from Karnataka and Maharashtra.
 
Apart from the array of events, a book fair on literature in psychology and neuroscience was also an attraction.
