At one point they were the most-photographed celebrity couple in the media industry, but now former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea are headed for divorce.

Earlier, on Tuesday, charges were framed against Peter, Indrani and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case by special CBI judge H S Mahajan, who fixed the commencement of trial for February 1.

After the charges were framed, Indrani told Additional Sessions Judge H S Mahajan that she wants to divorce Peter. “No need to take permission from the trial court,” Judge Mahajan told Indrani.

Peter, however, was not present in the courtroom when she made the request.
“She told the court that she would like to file for divorce (in the family court) and also change her will... the court said that it was her personal will,” Indrani’s lawyer Gunjan Mangla said.

Since the murder of Sheena came to light, their relation had soured and they blamed each other for the crime.

Peter had married Indrani Bora in 2002. Peter was then 46 and Indrani 16 years younger. Peter also adopted Indrani's daughter Vidhi from her first marriage with Khanna. Indrani also had a live-in relationship with Siddharth Das, with whom she had two children — Sheena and Mikhail Bora. This was Peter’s second marriage, the earlier being in 1975 to Shabnam Singh, with whom he has two sons — Rabin and Rahul Mukerjea. They separated in the early 90s.
