The Bangalore School of Music’ and the ‘Biocon Foundation’ are organising the grand finale concert of the ‘BSM-Biocon Outreach Project’ for the academic year 2016-17. The concert titled, ‘Love Changes the World’, will be held today at 4 pm at Guru Nanak Bhavan.

The chief guests for the event are Rani Desai, head, BIOCON Foundation and Sudhakar Rao, chairman-advisory board, The Bangalore School of Music.

Vatsalya Charitable Trust, Sukrupa Childrens’ Home, Ark of the Rainbow School and the Cox Town Government School are the participating schools for the event.

Under the tutelage of BSM faculty members, Sheba Kurien, Avin Chemmanoor, Abishek Gnanaraj, Chinglang Roumon, Bettina Amacher and Rebecca T Colaco, around 200 children in total from these schools have been regularly learning music under the BSM-BIOCON project for the past one year and have shown great strides in their learning curves — including music, attention to detail, discipline in class, grasp of the English language and overall self-confidence and self-esteem.

The guest choir for this event is ‘The Bangalore Children’s Chorus’ led by Dr Maya Mascarenhas, with choreography inputs from Judith Roby Bidapa, consisting of over 75 children from across Bengaluru between five and 17 years.

Initiated 20 years ago by late Aruna Sunderlal, founder of The Bangalore School of Music, the BSM-Biocon Outreach Programme has benefitted over 7,000 such children through this form of music therapy which aims to socially, cognitively, artistically and linguistically enrich their lives.
