With more than a hundred eateries and coffee shops, Koramangala can definitely be called a foodies’ hub. The latest restaurant to make it to the list is ‘The Flying Squirrel Micro Roastery and Café’.

Just about a month old, the place is creating a buzz among foodies in the city, with its novel concept of micro roastery wherein some of the most unique freshly roasted coffees are ground and served on the spot.

If you are a coffee lover, this is perhaps the place to experiment with some unique coffee blends and let the lovely aroma beat your stress. The menu is creatively crafted and segmented into different coffee types.

‘Clouds in my coffee’ is a naturally processed coffee, using seaside moisture and saturated air that gives it a deep and strong flavour. ‘Aromatique’, on the other hand, has a mild sweetness and almost wine-like rounded acidity. The aroma of this blend lingers in your mouth for a pretty long time. ‘Parama’, a perfectly balanced blend, has a slightly bitter sweet taste.

If one wants to go organic, there is the ‘Sattva’ range. This single-estate and organic arabica bean coffee can be your best cup of organic coffee.  The last in the range is the ‘Sun-kissed’ variant — a single-estate coffee processed using the pulp sun drying technique.

With a menu so elaborate, you might tend to ponder over what to order. In that case, you can always seek help at the counter and ask for their recommendation. The staff is  thorough with the menu and have great knowledge of all the coffees available. However, you can ask for an ‘Aromatique pour over’ or keep it simple with a cup of ‘Parama cappuccino’. Every hot coffee is served in a wooden tray along with a small bowl of sugar and a cookie.

‘Vietnamese iced coffee’ is another great option if you want to try out the cold counterparts.  Even though this place is primarily about aromatic brews, the food menu is equally tempting and flavourful. All the dishes in the menu are consciously curated to compliment any blend of coffee that one orders. Try out their ‘Coorg bird’s eye chilli, spaghetti, jumbo prawns and parmesan’. Though the quantity seems large, it is light on the tummy and just perfect to satiate your hunger. The ‘Coffee wood smoked caesar salad’ is another option if you are looking for something fresh and filling.

The ‘Pepper-crusted grilled chicken sandwich’ tastes great too; however, the sandwich bread is a little hard to bite as it becomes cold.

Like it’s said, there is always room for dessert, and the ‘Parama infused creme brûlée’ or the ‘Chocolate overload’ is the best way to complete your meal. The mild coffee flavour in the creme brûlée is soothing to the palate. With the generous amount of
chocolate in the latter, it truly lives up to its name. Dig into the layers of chocolate and unwind.

‘The Flying Squirrel’ is located at 136, below Gold’s Gym, 1st Floor, 1st Cross, Koramangala 5th Block. For details, call 40991044.
