Spotlight on women

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Department of English, Silicon City College, KR Puram initiated a national conference on Shakespeare’s portrayal of women.

The event was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by key women members of the
college. The inaugural address was given by the chairman of Silicon City Group of Institutions wherein he highlighted the role of women in different walks of life.

He pointed out that women are emotionally stronger as compared to men. He referred to eminent personalities like Kalpana Chawla and Triveni and spoke about their contribution in their respective fields.  The key speakers at the event were Dr S Venkates­hwaran, Regional Institute of English, Bengaluru; Dr K Lavanya, HOD, Department of English, St Joseph’s College of Arts and Science for Women, Hosur and Dr R Saravanan, Department of English and soft skills trainer, Madanapalli Institute of Technology and Science, Andhra Pradesh.

The various presentations were moderated by Dr Thammiah R B, associate professor and HOD, Department of English, Padmashri Institute of Management and  Sciences. 

The conference was attended by delegates from various colleges and universities across South India. Principal professor Gnanesh, Silicon City College; principal professor Adilakshmi, Silicon City PU College; director research, Dr Rose Kavitha; dean professor T Shivagami, and professor Pushpa, academic co-ordinator, Silicon City College graced the occasion.
