Former Congress MP and prominent tribal leader Pradeep Majhi has resigned from the post of vice president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee.

"I resigned from the OPCC vice-president post taking moral responsibility on the Congress debacle in the recently concluded panchayat elections," Majhi told reporters.

Stating that he preferred to quit OPCC vice-president on moral ground, Majhi said he would work as the party's tribal cell chief. "We have failed in strengthening the party organisation and have not prepared it as required," Majhi said.

Replying a question, Majhi said he is not quitting the Congress. He said a number of leaders of the party and PCC are responsible for the debacle of the party in the recently concluded panchayt elections. They did not do what should have been done.

Stating that he would continue to head the tribal cell of the party in the state, Majhi said he would give more time in organising the party in Nabarangpur Parliamentary Constituency as the general election is only two years from now.

He admitted that every Congressman have to work hard at ground level to regain the lost faith of the people.

The former Congress MP also suggested a total change in party state organisation.
