Subway closed permanently
A pedestrian subway was built by the BBMP at the Vijayanagar main bus stand a few years ago at a cost of lakhs of rupees. But the subway has been locked for the last few years, forcing people to cross the traffic-filled road. Could the authorities concerned reopen the subway and ensure it serves its purpose?

Drain slab broken
The slab of a drain on the busy KR Road near Apsara Theatre has broken and poses grave danger to road users. Although the broken slab was repaired in the past, it soon gave way due to poor workmanship. The authorities must repair it at the earliest.

BBMP turns road into dumping yard
Garbage is being segregated on Kaggadasapura Main Road in CV Raman Nagar. BBMP garbage trucks occupy most of the main road, leaving no space for road users. Two to three trucks are stationed on the road at any given point in time, besides garbage auto tippers. Moreover, the entire road raises an unbearable stench. Looks like there is a nexus between the BBMP contractor and the ward corporator as this activity has been going on unchecked.

Garbage segregation needs to be shifted to the vacant site near the BBMP office in CV Raman Nagar or the civic body should acquire the land for the purpose. There is a burial ground south of Kaggadasapura Main Road, which can also be used for garbage segregation.

Ply buses from JP Nagar 6th Phase to BU
Introducing a BMTC bus service from JP Nagar 6th Phase to Bangalore University via the ring road flyover of Chandra Layout, Nagarabhavi and Ambedkar College will cut the travel time from JP Nagar, Deve Gowda petrol pump, Banashankari 3rd Stage, PES college, etc.

Presently, people have to get down at the Nagarabhavi signal bus stop, get on buses plying between Banashankari and Yeshwantpur and take another bus coming from Majestic to reach Ambedkar College. The bus service will also benefit people travelling to Chandra Layout, Nagarabhavi and the ring road of Ambedkar College.

In the long run, people will find the above route feasible as the flyover service infrastructure from Nayandahalli to Ambedkar College and from Nayandahalli to Yeshwantpur are both well connected by the railways.

No parking space for Malleswaram residents
Malleswaram 5th Cross, popularly known as 100 feet road, had a glorious past with a wide road, matching footpaths and well-grown rain trees on either side, providing the much-needed shade even in the peak of summer. Today it wears a destitute look. The road has been butchered as if in vengeance. The main road has been torn into three parts, an underpass and two narrow service roads, all in the name of providing seamless traffic and development.

The original 30-foot-wide footpath is now only three feet wide. Let alone parking, even stopping of auto-rickshaws and four-wheelers for entry and exit is objected to by the police. Banks threaten building owners at any given opportunity.

We request the BBMP, the BMTC and the police to show some mercy on residents and undertake the following measures: divert the west-bound BMTC buses from the service road to the main underpass, close the service road for heavy traffic except under compelling circumstances, and immediately provide dedicated space for two-wheeler parking.

Road work delayed
The road works in Rustam Bagh Layout (ward no 113) started in February after a long delay. However, the works have now come a grinding halt. As a result, the road has become narrow aggravating parking woes and hampering movement of vehicles. Will the BBMP ensure early completion of the project?
V Padmanabhan, Rustam Bagh Main Road

Roads in bad shape
The roads in Gruhalakshmi Layout (ward 41) are in a bad shape. Motorists find it tough to ply on the roads as they are not asphalted for years. Hope the authorities concerned will look into the matter and take necessary action.

Garbage units polluting air
The garbage processing units at Seegehalli and Kannahalli are processing trash beyond their capacity. The foul odour emanating from them is polluting Kannahalli, Kodigehalli, Seegehalli villages and the area adjacent to Kempegowda BDA, Visveswaraya and Bharathnagara layouts. The air pollution has become a health hazard for residents. The worst is yet to come once monsoon begins. These plants are poorly managed.

How fair are bank charges?
Recently, I went to the HDFC Bank’s Chamarajpet branch on Appu Rao Road to deposit money in my son’s savings account. I was asked to pay Rs 150 as bank charges since it is a non-home branch account. The charge which came into effect from April 1 is quite exorbitant. Clearly, the Union finance minister’s advice to banks to not levy any transaction charges has not been heeded.

Bus stop blues
Both BMTC and private bus operators halt their vehicles at common bus stops at Vidyamanya Nagar as well as several pockets of the city. Private operators do not move quickly from the stop.

As a result, BMTC buses halt yards away from the bus stop. The aged, ailing, mothers with kids in their arms and disabled persons cannot run to board buses. The transport authorities should earmark separate stops for the BMTC and private buses to avoid inconvenience to passengers.

Nightmare in Sahakaranagar
The Kodigehalli railway gate was closed more than two years ago. A second railway line was laid and is already in use.

However, it is a nightmare for residents to cross the Sahakaranagar railway gate. Unruly traffic is common for most part of the day. The area has been totally neglected. No repair on the road was carried out after the railway gate. Regular bus services have stopped. Locals have to walk long to catch a bus. Auto drivers fleece while few people can afford cabs.

Faulty BBMP portal
The BBMP portal for payment of property tax is useless at best. The ‘proceed with payment’ button ends up with ‘oops an error occurred’ message.

The grievance link brings up a form and on submit says ‘oops an error occurred’ The Palike should rectify the portal at the earliest.

Motorbikes parked on footpath
The footpath in front of Indraprastha Hotel towards the Vijayanagar Metro station was laid recently. Metro passengers park their two-wheelers on the footpath from morning to night. The road has heavy traffic and hawkers also occupy it. Pedestrians find it difficult to walk on the road. Will the traffic police look into this problem?
