CMC prez tells officials to halt UGD works

Directs commissioner not to clear bills of contractor

City Municipal Council president Kaveramma Somanna has directed the officials to halt the work on UGD in Madikeri town. The UGD works are being executed haphazardly by digging the roads indiscriminately and thereby damaging them beyond repair.

 Chairing the CMC meeting here on Wednesday, she said owing to the UGD works, the concrete roads have been damaged at a few localities. The contractor has failed to repir the road, thus causing inconvenience to the motorists.

Member K M B Ganesh said that without taking any precautionary measures, the UGD works are being carried out in the town. “I do not know which is road and drain in my ward,” he said.

Stating that sources of water at Kootuhole, Kannandabane, Pumphouse and Sampigekatte is being dumped with soil, the CMC president warned of initiating action against such miscreants.

The members said that the road works taken up under Nagarothana Second Phase is of poor quality. Till the contractor repairs the road, the bill should not be cleared.

Reacting to it, Commissioner Shubha said that the officials have been directed not to pay the amoung to contractor. In case, if they pay, then action would be initiated against engineers.
