Last Updated 08 May 2017, 19:22 IST

Defending champions Kaliyanda made a hasty exit when they went down 0-1 to Pudiyokkada in the last-32 round match in Kodava family hockey tournament for Biddatanda Cup at General K S Thimayya Stadium at Cheriyaparambu near here on Monday.

The three-time champion Kaliyanda looked off-colour against Pudiyokkada, who produced a percentage hockey. Pudiyokkada rode on a lone goal by Neeran Nachappa to shown champions the door.

Mandepanda, who had won the tournament in 2007, registered a facile 4-0 victory against Mevada and booked their place in pre-quarters.  Chandan Cariappa sounded the board twice while Bopanna and Dilan scored a goal apiece to help the team to advance further in the tournament.

The day also witnessed yet another upset of sorts. Karineravanda ended the campaign of two-time champion Kulletira with a narrow 1-0 win.

Lithish Biddappa netted the winner.
