The state government in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will set up a 200-acre logistics park near Dobbspet, off Tumakuru Road in Bengaluru Rural district, to meet the longstanding demands of truckers.

Speaking at the South Zone Truck Owners’ Conference, Transport Secretary Basavaraju said the over 200-acre park will have a truck terminal, helping maintenance of vehicles. It will also provide facilities to help drivers rest.  A similar park will come up on Hosur Road in the next phase, he said.

“The state government officials had held meetings in New Delhi with NHAI authorities to finalise the logistics park, which is a Central government project. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has agreed to provide the land needed for the project,” he said.

The state government has plans to construct a similar logistics park near Hosur Road in the next phase of the project to cater to the trucks coming to the city from Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

“Hosapete, Hubballi and Gadag, which handle a significant amount of goods in the state, will get truck terminals soon. In Hubballi, the truck terminal will come up under private partnership. Vijayapura, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and other districts will also get truck terminals in future. We are collecting information from the deputy commissioners regarding the availability of land,” Basavaraju said.

Karnataka Lorry Owners’ Association president Channa Reddy said the state government has been delaying the truck terminal project by citing difficulties in acquiring land. for the project.  “A new society has been registered. This society will help establish truck terminals in every taluk and district and all lorry owners should join hands for the success of this plan,” he said.
