Last Updated 14 May 2017, 20:06 IST

A citizen activist group is taking matters into its own hands to address the issues plaguing the city with soaring mercury levels and severe water crisis.
‘Water Warriors’, in their 9th campaign, set out to create awareness among citizens on the importance of recycling water and rain water harvesting (RWH) at houses and workspaces at Horamavu (ward 25) on Sunday.

While the last edition carried out last week was celebrated at Vijayanagar, this time, the Bengaluru Water Warriors — a citizen activist group along with various stakeholders such as Esther Enclave Residents’ Welfare Association, B.PAC, BWSSB among others took the initiative to Horamavu.
A poster-making competition and water quiz for children aged below 15 years was organised to encourage them to participate as young water champions.

To disseminate information on water conservation, a street play by 'Abhinaya Taranga' theatre group was held at two different places in Horamavu and Ramamurthy Nagar falling under KR Puram Assembly constituency.

BWSSB officials and an RWH demo van were present at the location. Overall, at least 300 people witnessed the event which disseminated knowledge about saving water.

“At least 100 children participated in the kids’ carnival section. Besides water conservation, the BBMP staff were also present to teach the public about disposing of waste effectively and composting methods. We plan to hold the awareness workshop across the wards of Bengaluru. On May 19, we plan to hold the tenth edition at DJ Halli,”  said Anand Prasad, one of the water warriors.
