Minister for Social Welfare H Anjaneya has said he was not a contender for the post of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president. “I will be happy with the choice of the high command. The next Assembly election will be faced under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the KPCC president,” Anjaneya told reporters here on Tuesday. He was in the city to enquire about the health of Siddaganga Mutt seer, Dr Shivakumara Swamiji.

Anjaneya said that the Congress had launched various welfare schemes as promised in its 2013 election manifesto. He claimed that the Congress government in Karnataka has implemented such schemes which no other state government in the country could come up with. “Therefore, we are confident that people will vote us to power in the next election,” he said.

Describing Congress as a garden of people from all communities, Anjaneya said that there was no class distinction in the party and all the workers will strive for the party’s victory in the election.

“BJP leaders have been claiming that the party will 150 seats in the next Assembly elections. Some have even declared themselves as chief minister and some have already allotted ministerial portfolios also. But, there is no such practice in Congress. We respect the decision of the high command,” he said.

The minister said that the Karnataka Permanent Commission for Backward Classes has already prepared its report on the social and economic survey. More information will be obtained after holding a discussion with the chairperson of the commission. The report will be made public after a discussion in the Cabinet. It will be uploaded onto websites concerned also, he added.
