Home Minister G Parameshwara has said that there is nothing to hide in the case of IAS officer Anurag Tewari who was Commissioner for Food and Civil Supplies and died under mysterious circumstances in Lucknow recently.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday after paying a surprise visit to the Mandya East Police Station, Parameshwara said that Tewari was an efficient officer and the cause of his death will be ascertained after investigations are completed.

He said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath asking him for a thorough investigation. When asked about the allegations levelled by Opposition party leaders, the minister said that no one should play politics in a death case. The allegations by BJP leaders that the officer had collected documents pertaining to a Rs 2,000 crore scam in the Food and Civil Supplies department are baseless, he said.

Responding to BJP state unit president B S Yeddyurappa’s visit to the house of a Dalit in Chitradurga, Parameshwar said, it was a political gimmick to attract Dalit votes.

Parameshwar said that during his visit to the police station he identified a few shortfalls in the documents. The minister said that he has issued a warning to the police personnel to maintain documents in a proper way and to also follow the newly implemented beat system.
