Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday took objection to the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi being prevented from meeting the families of five farmers, who were killed in police firing in Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said Rahul is a prominent leader of the Congress and had every right to meet the families of the victims and express his concern.

He said  the BJP, before the Lok Sabha elections, had promised to double the income of farmers. But, the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh had snatched away the lives of five farmers.

Two farmers had been killed in police firing in Karnataka during B S Yeddyurappa’s tenure, he recalled.

He said the NDA government had assisted Uttar Pradesh in waiving the loans of farmers, but had not offered any such help to Karnataka. “When the NDA government can waive loans procured by business persons, why is it not showing the same concern towards farmers?” Siddaramaiah asked.
