'Expedite recruitment of pourakarmikas'

Safai Karmachari Commission chairman M R Venkatesh on Friday urged the government to speed up the recruitment of pourakarmikas (civic workers) in various municipalities and municipal corporations.

At a meeting with Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and Urban Development Minister R Roshan Baig, Venkatesh demanded that the salaries should be credited directly into the account of pourakarmikas without the involvement of contractors.

He also asked him to remove the system of outsourcing pourakarmikas by external agencies. He said the state government must follow the system adopted by the Haryana government to hire pourakarmikas.

George told him that he would consider his suggestions.
