A few pro-Kannada organisations have called for a bandh to be observed on Monday for a permanent solution to the water crisis in the state.
However, some of these organisations are not keen on the bandh call, raising doubts over its success. Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj and Sa Ra Govindu, president of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), in a press conference on Saturday said the bandh will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm on Monday.
A huge procession of farmers will be taken out from Town Hall towards Vidhana Soudha. He appealed to all organisations, trade unions, drivers’ unions, etc. to observe the bandh and stand united till the Mahadayi irrigation project is implemented.
Outfits like Kannada Rakshana Vedike showed no interest in observing the bandh.
Sources from KSRTC and BMTC said they would operate as usual. Autorickshaw drivers’ association, cab drivers’ association and other public transport unions said they will function as usual. Schools and colleges will remain open. Petrol bunk owners’ associations, hotel owner’s association and APMC trade union associations also said they were not observing the bandh.
