The Vijayanagar police will on Monday seek the custody of Ravi alias Gunda who reportedly made an extortion call to a businessman in Vijayanagar and got him robbed last week.

Ravi, who is currently lodged in Central Prison, not only made an extortion call to Kushal Kumaraswamy, the trader, but also had him assaulted, his car vandalised and got robbed him of
Rs 10,000 at knifepoint.

The west division police have written to the jail authorities to conduct an enquiry into how the prisoner could have access to a mobile phone. The police have also written to the service provider to ascertain details of the SIM card used. “We have written to the network service provider to provide us with the application form and the supporting documents submitted for the purchase and activation of the SIM card that was used for making the call. After getting those details, we can trail how the inmate got access to the phone,” said M N Anucheth, DCP (West).
