Photo on notebooks: 'Bava has violated apex court orders'

MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava has printed had his pictures on the notebooks he distributed to schoolchildren recently, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

He has done so although the Supreme Court has directed not to carry photographs of elected representatives on materials distributed to people, he said at a protest meet organised by the BJP Mangaluru City North block, in front of the ZP office on Tuesday.

“Party politics should not enter schools. It is good work to give notebooks to students. But, why does Bava remember schoolchildren so much just before Assembly elections?” he said.

He urged the Department of Public Instruction officials to take appropriate steps against the MLA’s move for violation of the Supreme Court order.

BJP leader Dr Bharat Shetty said that Bava has asked the children not to cover the note books with binding paper but show the books to him whenever he comes to the school. The perspective of Bava is purely political.

Satyajit Suratkal said that although earlier MLAs have also distributed notebooks, they did not get their photos printed on the books. Bava has said that the books are being distributed so the children know about him, which shows that the children do not know him as he has not visited his constituency. Many parents have returned the notebooks.

The protesters handed over the notebooks to DDPI Walter D’Mello and submitted a memorandum requesting him to deny permissions to politically motivated activities in schools.
