The state government issued an order on waiver of short-term crop loans up to Rs 50,000 availed by farmers from co-operative banks in the state.

The loans outstanding till June 20 this year will be waived. The waiver is applicable only for loans obtained from Primary Agriculture Co-operative Societies (PACs) and District Credit Co-operative Banks (DCCBs), the order issued by the co-operation department dated June 23 stated.

The order explains the procedure to be followed by all co-operative banks to claim reimbursement from the government.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said that his government would not delay issuing the order. He had also accused the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh of delaying issuing an order on its decision to waive farm loans.
