An LCD TV, a home theatre set, cell phones, iPods, cameras, laptops, two air conditioners  were destroyed in the fire at Reliance Digital around 2:45 am. A short circuit is said to have caused the fire.

The company’s Loss Prevention Manager Vijesh said he was alerted by the Reliance control room in Mumbai, which is connected to all the alarm systems in showrooms across the country.

It took about two hours for four fire tenders to douse the fire. Police said the timely arrival of fire tenders averted a major mishap and added that a complaint was yet to be lodged with them.

2 held for burglary
The Central Crime Branch police recently arrested two persons and recovered 2.32 kg gold and 5 kg silver worth Rs 37 lakh from them.
The suspects are: Sanjupathi alias Wadivelu (29) and Perumal (33), both from Tirupattur in Tamil Nadu.

According to the police, they had been evading arrest since 2008. They were involved in seven house theft cases in Vijaynagar. They would identify locked houses and strike during nights. They would use iron rods to break open the door locks to gain entry.

They struck at the residences of Basavanna and Dr Prakash Bhat in RPC Layout in 2008 and that of Manish Mehta in April 2009. They burgled two houses in May 2009 and two more houses in September same year.

In September last, they made away with 1800 grams of gold, Rs four lakh cash and 3000 US dollars from one Bhaskar’s house, added the police.
They sold the stolen valuables in Tirupattur and Bangalore. Sanjupathi left Tirupattur long ago and moved to Ernavur near Chennai. He also bought a site measuring 50X55 and invested around Rs 8 lakh to construct a house, added the police.
On a tip off, the police arrested them near Kalasipalya police station when they were moving suspiciously. They are also involved in theft cases in Basaveshwarnagar, Central, Kalasipalya, JP Nagar and KS Layout, added the police.
