The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday acquitted four members of the Dandupalya gang of murder and their death sentence was set aside.

These alleged notorious thieves and murderers, involved in a series of cases of theft and murder, were acquitted of the murder of  Dr Prabhakar Joshi and his son Neelakanta Joshi in Hubballi in 2000.

A division bench comprising Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice John Michael Cunha acquitted the four. The appellants Venkatesh, Munikrishna, Nalla Thimma and Lakshmi were sentenced to death by the special court in Parappana Agrahara jail.

Hearing the appeal and criminal referred cases, the division bench acquitted them on the ground that there was lack of evidence against them. The court opined that their fingerprints were created after they were arrested and wrongly accused in the case.
