<div align="justify">In a bid to educate the children about consumer rights, consumer clubs are being set up at select government high schools. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has sanctioned a grant of Rs 8,000 for the same, said, deputy director of Food and Civil Supplies Manteswamy.<br /><br />He said this addressing the gathering after distributing cheaques for Rs 8,000 to a select band of government high schools at a programme held at Consumer Information centre in the city on Friday.<br /><br />Starting next year, the Union government will provide grants to 20 government and aided high schools in the district every year, the district official said. <br /><br />The consumer clubs aims to educate the children on consumer rights like why they should insist and obtain reciepts after buying items, on the lapses in weights and measures while buying commodities and ways to prevent them, on lodging complaints with consumer forum if there are any shortcomings in the services and commodities, the deputy director of Food and Civil Supplies. The department will organise essay, debate and quiz competitions to create awareness about consumer rights among the children and the members of public, he said.<br /><br />T S Niranjan of Consumer Information Centre spoke about the constitution of consumer clubs and their activities. <br /></div>
