The Maharashtra government would set up a Cabinet sub-committee that would periodically review the issues raised by the Maratha Kranti Morcha and take necessary steps, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Wednesday.

The announcement came in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly after delegations of the Maratha community - that took out a mammoth morcha in Mumbai - called on him at the Vidhan Bhavan complex at Nariman Point here.

The morcha from Ranibaug-JJ Flyover-Azad Maidan received good response and support from political parties and other groups.

As regards the reservation, he said that the Bombay High Court had stayed it and has called a report from the Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission. "We will request the commission to tender the report early," the chief minister said. '

Fadnavis also said that the Cabinet sub-committee would meet every three months with the representatives of various organisations of the Maratha community.

On the issue of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian Sea, he said that the tendering was done and it would soon be decided by the high-powered committee headed by chief secretary. "We are also committed to protecting the forts," he said, giving the example of the Raigad fort, where work of restoration was in progress under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India.
