He stole 36 bikes to take girlfriend on jolly rides

West division police have detected 46 vehicle theft cases, arrested 60 people and recovered 159 vehicles worth Rs 80 lakh them them.

According to the police, 153 out of 159 vehicles recovered were two-wheelers and the rest were autorickshaws and cars. In majority of the two-wheeler theft cases, the suspects were juveniles and stole bikes to practise bike stunts like wheelies, stoppies and dirt racing. They would abandon the vehicles after running out of fuel, the police said.

In one case, the Kempegowda Nagar police arrested a youth who stole 36 bikes from various parts of the city just to take his girlfriend for jolly rides and impress her by laying his hand on a variety of bikes.

The suspect then would sell the bikes at throwaway prices to buy gifts for her, the police said.

In most of the cases, the carelessness of the victims resulted in bike thefts as they would leave the ignition keys behind and left vehicles without installing safety features like theft alarms.
