Elderly couple robbed by gang; husband stabbed

Armed dacoits stabbed and robbed an elderly couple at their house in Chandana Layout in Kamakshipalya on Wednesday afternoon.

Two men approached the victims Mahadevappa (65) and his wife Jayalakshmi (58), around 11 am to enquire about a commercial shed adjacent to their house for rent. The duo then returned around 3.30 pm with three others on the pretext of paying the advance for the shed. The duo then took Mahadevappa to the shed on the pretext of closing the deal and stabbed him when he resisted their attempt to rob him. Hearing his screams, Jayalakshmi rushed to his help following which the suspects threatened her with a dagger, tied her hands and fled from the spot after snatching her gold chain and mangalsutra.

Jayalakshmi managed to come out through the back door of the shed and screamed for help, following which the neighbours rushed to their help and alerted the police. Mahadevappa and Jayalskshmi were rushed to a hospital where Mahadevappa, who sustained stab injuries in his left lower abdomen, is undergoing treatment. The Kamakshipalya police rushed to the spot and conducted their investigations. They have registered a case of dacoity and have formed two special teams to track down the suspects, M N Anucheth DCP West Division said.

2 held for selling ganja

Two people were arrested for selling ganja in separate incidents. Bellandur police arrested a 24-year old man on Wednesday and seized 1,200 grams of ganja.

The suspect is identified as Muzaffar Mandal, a native of Bihar. According to the police, he was caught selling ganja near Haralur road. He was arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded in police custody. In another incident, acting on a tip-off, Marathalli police arrested a 38-year-old man selling ganja in Devarabisanahalli.

The police seized 15 kg of ganja from him. The arrested has been identified as Ravi M from Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. The police are trying to trace the source of the ganja. The suspect has been arrested under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded in police custody.

Pedestrian killed

A 75-year-old pedestrian was killed when a speeding bike knocked him down near Kendra Vidyalaya at Venkatala in Yelahanka on Tuesday.

The deceased, Munikrishnappa, a construction labourer, was crossing the road on his way home from work when the incident occurred, police said.

A grievously injured Munikrishnappa was rushed to a nearby hospital by passersby, where he was declared brought dead. Mudassir, the bike rider, also sustained injuries and is being treated at the hospital. The Yelahanka traffic police have taken up a case and are investigating.
