Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to cover 6500 beneficiaries

 A total of 6,500 house and siteless families have been identified in Chikkamagaluru to provide a roof under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, said MLA C T Ravi.

He was speaking at a workshop on Pradhan Manthri Awas Yojana for the beneficiaries in Chikkamagaluru on Friday. In the first phase, houses will be constructed for 1,511 beneficiaries on a 23-acre land.

“We will write to the deputy commissioner seeking land to provide houses for the remaining 5,000 beneficiaries. There is no shortage of funds for the purchase of sites,” he said.

Under the scheme, the beneficiaries (general category) have to pay Rs 50,000 in the first instalment and Rs 22,000 as the first instalment for (SC/ST beneficiaries.). The houses will be constructed free of cost for the physically challenged persons.

City Municipal Council (CMC) commissioner M V Tusharamani said the scheme intended at providing a roof over the head of every poor person. Permission has been granted for constructing houses for 879 beneficiaries from general category, 605 beneficiaries from SC/ST and 27 physically challenged persons.

The housing complex will be constructed on G plus two model. About 1,296 houses will be constructed in survey number 47, 49 at Indavara, 144 houses at Nallur and 71 houses on survey number 38. Under the scheme, the Centre will give a financial assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh for the beneficiaries, while the state government will give Rs 1.20 lakh for general category and Rs 1.80 lakh for SC/ST beneficiaries.

The general category beneficiaries will have to pay Rs 2.40 lakh and SC/ST beneficiaries Rs 1.80 lakh in four instalments. The challan of the first instalment paid should be submitted to the CMC.
