33 couples take marriage vows in Madikeri

The event was meant for the benefit of poor and orphan women. Each bride was gifted with 40 gm jewellry, one pair of dress, while the groom also got a pair of dress. MLC M C Nanaiah, former MLA K M Ibrahim and Athur’s Syed Ibrahim Hadi Tangal took part.  So far, a total of 165 Muslim women have got married through the mass marriages organised by the Al-amin.

The organisation has decided to conduct marriages of at least 25 Muslim females every year. Office bearers of the organisation said about Rs 26 lakh has been spent for the event. As per the ‘Adarsha Vivaha’ scheme of the government, if more than 25 pairs get marry together, each pair will get Rs 10,000. Hence, the pairs who got married on Sunday too will be getting Rs 10,000 each.

Speaking on the occasion, MLC and former minister M C Nanaiah said the leaders of all religions should strive towards cleansing their religion from blind beliefs.  “With the feeling that only their religion is superior, some people are trying to instigate violence and unrest in the society. Instead, they should strive for maintaining peace and harmony,” he said, blessing the couples.
