'He got easy bail as marijuana was in car, not on person'
Officials of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) are optimistic of nailing Geethavishnu (27), grandson of businessman and politician, the late D K Audikeshavalu.

He has been booked for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing an accident at South End Circle in Jayanagar, in which six of a family were injured on the intervening night of September 27-28 (at around 12.40 am).

'FSL report will be positive'
Blood and urine samples taken from the accused on September 28 were within 12 hours of the accident and the police are confident that reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) will be positive. Since there were four consecutive holidays till Monday, the samples were sent to FSL only on Tuesday.

“Our men were present with the accused and doctors when the samples were taken, at the private hospital where he got admitted,” said a senior police officer.

Eyewitnesses have told police that the man behind the wheels was intoxicated. The police recovered 110 gm of marijuana from the Mercedes SUV that he was driving, which collided with the Maruti Omni.

Vishnu got admitted to Mallya Hospital at around 3 am for minor injuries during the scuffle at the accident spot, where he claimed he was mobbed and robbed of his gold chain and ATM card.

There were four cases registered against Vishnu, in which he managed to obtain bail for the second one (under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) registered against him, police say.

"He easily managed to secure bail as the marijuana was seized from his car and not on his person. It was a tricky argument at the court," said an investigating officer. "The primary case is road accident, which is a bailable offence. Escaping from police custody is also a bailable offence, depending on the primary case and the extent of criminal conspiracy involved. The fourth case is damage to property, which is only a finable offence,” the officer said.
