Claims of Bruhat Bengaluru Mananagara Palike (BBMP) that they have filled  98% potholes in the city is a sham.

On Sunday, the civic body claimed there are just 844 potholes in the city. But a  reality check by DH in 10 major roads in Central Business District (CBD) area identified 236 potholes.

These stretches of roads include Townhall to KR Market, Link road to Seshadripuram Police station, Anand Rao Circle, Sampige road, Kalasipalya, Chamarajpet fourth main road, SC Road, Cubbon Park, Dhanvanthri road and Magadi road.

According to residents in Chamrajpet, fourth main road was asphalted just 10 days ago, but it has already damaged. Many small potholes have turned into huge craters.

"BBMP is fooling people in the name of setting deadline. Pathetic condition road only show shoddy done by  contractors and BBMP officials,"  said Mahadeva Kumar, a resident of Chamarajapet.

Link road to Seshadripuram police station stretch had nearly 53 potholes. Near Swastik circle, where the road connects towards Sampige road (Mantri mall and central bus stop) had potholes  and stretch is not in a motorable condition.

"Swastik circle is one of the important stretches where the road connects to Shivananda circle, Vidhana Soudha, Malleshwaram and other parts of the city. But the road here is in a poor condition. Unscientific and rampant digging by various civic stakeholders. None bother to fill them after indiscriminate digging causing potholes," said Abraham Khan, a motorist.

In Kalasipalya bus stop the cement road has got potholes. This road is used by nearly hundreds of BMTC, KSRTC and private buses daily. According to a traffic police constable manning traffic in the junction, the road damaged a couple of months back. "The cement road which was constructed nearly a year ago is in worst condition," he said adding that traffic slows down due to bad road.

The DH team, however, could not count  potholes on Shanthinagara double road, Gandhinagar, Seshadri road, Mysuru Bank circle, Avenue road, and other CBD areas because of the traffic.

Meanwhile, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said " Monday was the last day to complete the work, Tuesday onwards we are conducting an inspection in the city. If the pothole is not filled, genuine reasons have to be given by the officer or else action will be taken."
