Special land acquisition office furniture seized

As per the court's order, furniture of Hemavathy Reservoir Special Land Acquisition Office and the car of Additional Deputy Commissioner were attached, for failing to pay compensation to the farmers, on Wednesday.

Citing the delay in providing compensation to the lands acquired for the Yagachi canal works, the Civil Court here had issued orders in 2014 to provide suitable compensation for the lands acquired from Chandregowda, Honnamma and another Chandregowda of Kattaya village in the year 2008. But the authorities had failed to follow the orders.

On Wednesday, the furniture of the Land Acquisition Office, including chairs, table, printers and computers and the car of Additional DC Poornima were seized, as per the order. The officials tried to pacify the farmers and advocates, assuring to clear the dues soon. But the farmers were not ready to relent and demanded the compensation cheque immediately.

According to sources, the district administration has to pay Rs 3.84 lakh to Chandregowda, Rs 28.5 lakh to Honnamma and Rs 32.6 lakh to Chandregowda.

Advocate Satish said, "The furniture and car were seized as per the court order, as the compensation for the lands acquired from the three farmers is yet to be settled."
