Indifferent RCB lose to Mumbai

Pursing a daunting 192 set by Mumbai, RCB managed just 134/9 to suffer a 57-run loss at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite the crushing defeat, RCB are certain to enter the semis thanks to their better net run-rate.

With 14 points in their kitty, Challengers enjoy a healthy net run-rate of +0.22 which is better than that of other contenders Delhi Daredevils (+0.07) and Deccan Chargers (-0.36) who face each other on Sunday.

In the event of Daredevils’ victory, they will automatically enter the semis as the second-placed team. A defeat will eliminate Chargers from the race as their poor run-rate will take a further beating putting Challengers in a better position. The Chargers can make it to the semis if they beat Daredevils in which case the latter’s run-rate will most probably continue to be below that of RCB.

It’s a make-or-break situation for Chennai (+0.27) who meet laggards Kings XI in their final tie. A win will almost ensure them a place in the semis but a loss will send them tumbling out.

With Rajasthan Royals too out of the way after their eight-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight  Riders, it remains to be seen how Ganguly’s men are going to fare in their home match against Mumbai on Monday. With a net run-rate of -0.45, Kolkata need to win big against a Sachin Tendulkar-led side.
