Four constables have received cash rewards of Rs 5,000 each for going beyond the call of duty.

While head constable Rame Gowda and  constable Yogesh were honoured  for saving a cab driver who suffered epileptic seizures in the middle of the road while ferrying passengers, constables Usman and Beeralingappa were rewarded for preventing  the theft of cash from an ATM in Marathahalli.

Rame Gowda and Yogesh saved Yogesh Kumar, who drives cabs for an app-based aggregator, on the busy Goods Shed Road in the heart of the city  around 12.45 pm on Thursday.  Kumar had lost control  of the vehicle as he suffered epileptic seizures while approaching the exit of KSR (Bengaluru City) railway station. The cab hit the median strip and came to a halt, triggering a traffic jam.

Yogesh and Gowda, both attached to the Chickpet traffic police station, rushed to the spot and took the driver to the  hospital. They also informed his family. It later emerged that Kumar didn't have a history of epileptic seizures.

The constables' kind acts came to the notice of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, T Suneel Kumar,  who decided to reward them.

In the second instance,  Usman and Beeralingappa were on night patrol when they noticed some suspicious movement near a CitiBank ATM around 1.45 am  on Saturday. When they approached the kiosk, a man fled from the spot. Usman entered the kiosk and found a man trying to smash the ATM with a boulder. He pounced on him and called Beeralingappa for help. The constables  caught hold of the man and called the police control room.  The suspect was identified as Jacob. On the basis of  his interrogation, the Marathahalli police arrested his accomplice, Vinod.
