The city police have arrested four people,  including an employee of a private company, who offered Rs 15 lakh to get his wife murdered.

The suspects  are Narendra Babu (38), the husband, and his associates Chinnaswamy, a vegetable vendor; Abhilash, a cloth merchant; and Sridhar, an autorickshaw driver, all residents of Vyalikaval.

According to the police, three of the suspects  were waiting in an autorickshaw near Vinayaka circle at Malleswaram around 4 am on Wednesday. The  Vyalikaval beat police, who were on rounds, grew suspicious.  On  recovering  chilli powder and lethal weapons from inside the auto, the police suspected them to be dacoits and picked them up for questioning.

During interrogation, they confessed that they were waiting at the spot  to kill Babu's wife, Vinutha, while she was on her morning walk. They also  told the police that Babu had paid them Rs 2 lakh in advance to  get  his wife killed.

Based on this  information, the police arrested Babu, who also confessed to his involvement in the crime.

Babu told the police that his estranged wife was creating  trouble for him as well as  his parents. She, along with a man named Govindaraju from Hesaraghatta, had filed complaints against him, and so  he wanted  to eliminate her, the police quoted Babu  as saying.

The Vyalikaval police have registered a case.
