Palike plans to widen road from Varthur to Sarjapur

Last Updated 08 December 2017, 19:35 IST

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) to widen the road from Varthur to Sarjapur at a cost of Rs 70 crore.

"We are planning to widen the 1.4 km stretch from Varthur Lake Kodi at a cost of Rs 30 crore and a bridge at Varthur is being widened at a cost of Rs 10 crore," said Somashekar, chief engineer, road infrastructure, BBMP.

There are plans to widen 5-km stretch from Varthur to Sarjapur. The road from Varthur to Gunjur is broader. And from there, until Sarjapur, the road is just 30 feet wide.

"This is why we have decided to widen the road by 100 feet," he said.

"We have already taken up the survey work and we will call tenders after finalising the DPR," he explained.

As some parts of the work involve using land which does not belong to the BBMP, the officials are trying to contact the Public Works Department (PWD) as the Palike is planning to build the roads here.

"Hundreds of vehicles pass through this road every day and since the road is narrow, the traffic problem is more. We are taking up this work in order to solve this problem," said Somashekar.
