Woman knocked down by speeding lorry, dies on spot

A 20-year-old woman was killed on the spot when her scooter was knocked down by a speeding lorry in Vijayanagar on Thursday evening.

The victim, Sushmitha, was employed as a cook at a bar-cum-restaurant on MG Road, the police said. She used to stay with her sister at Kamakshipalya.  

According to the police, Sushmitha  was returning home after work when the accident occurred.    

Around 4 pm, she was heading towards KHB Colony from Jai Munirao Circle when the lorry knocked her down at Magadi main road in front of Raheja Park apartments. The victim sustained grievous head injuries and died on the spot. Passersby informed the police, who shifted the victim to Victoria Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

The Vijayanagar traffic police have arrested the lorry driver, Jagadish, and have seized his vehicle.

The police have registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving, and are investigating.
