The Church Street is all set with lighting and safety arrangements to welcome revellers to celebrate the New year.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has installed decorative LED street lights with timer along the stretch. The civic body also has plans to instal sensors in it.

The lights will switch on according to the time set by the Palike. They will dim or brighten up based on the movement of pedestrians and vehicles on the street.

Speaking to DH, KT Nagaraj, Chief Engineer (major roads): "We are planning to instal the sensors to the street lights that will allow the lights to glow according to the movement of vehicles and people on the street. The timer is set according to which the lights automatically switch on."

The BBMP also wants to extend its reserved parking space to women motorists.

"The 25% of two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking space will be dedicated exclusively for women, and the signboards indicating this will be put up by December 31st night," said Mayor R Sampath Raj.

The police have installed more than 50 CCTV cameras in the Church Street, Brigade Road and MG Road with banners saying 'CCTV in Use' for the safety of citizens.

The BBMP has already skipped three deadlines in completing the work.

The work on the stretch between Rest House Road and Museum Cross Road is progressing at a snail's pace even as the fourth deadline is coming to an end on December 31.
