'Swachchata Fortnight' volunteers to create awareness from today

In view of increasing public participation and to create awareness about Swachh Survekshan-2018, the Directorate of Field Publicity, Department of Information and Broadcasting, has organised 'Swachchata Fortnight' from Tuesday.

The Department, in association with the district administration, Mysuru City Corporation, Citizen Forum for Swachh Mysuru and JSS Mahavidyapeeta, will take up several activities in this direction. During the event, the volunteers will take up cleanliness drives in parts of the city and also create awareness about cleanliness among the citizens.

Assistant Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Mysuru region, T C Poornima, said, "The event will commence at 7.30 am and the volunteers will clean the statues of Chamaraja Wadiyar, Krishnaraja Wadiyar, and Jayachamaraja Wadiyar. She said that the authorities will identify black spots in the city and clean them. The volunteers will also paint the walls with the messages about cleanliness. Besides volunteers, government officials, doctors, advocates, professors and others will participate in the event on several days.

As part of the programme, the volunteers will take up cleanliness drives at KR Hospital, District Court Complex, government offices, bus stations and other public places.

In order to encourage the students, competitions such as elocution, essay writing, and various other programmes have been organised. Bicycle rally and yoga events will be other attractions.

Clean Mysuru brand ambassadors, members of the erstwhile royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, cricketer Javagal Srinath, seer Athmajananda of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama and Yoga Guinness record-holder H Kushi, will participate on various days. In addition to the cleanliness drives, the volunteers will also encourage citizens to download Swachh Survekshan application, said Poornima.
