The lawyers of Srinivasapur, on Tuesday, boycotted court proceedings and burnt an effigy of Gounipalli sub-inspector Vikas Gowda who carted away in a private car, two under trials brought to court.

They demanded legal action against PSI Vikas Gowda for flouting norms.

Senior counsel K Shivappa told reporters PSI Vikas Gowda had illegally taken away two under trials Seenamma and Bachanna in a private car and assaulted them.

"The PSI has also lodged a complaint against the advocate who questioned him. Gowda, who came to the court premises in plain clothes (mufti) took away the under trials without a warrant. The PSI must be suspended," Shivappa  demanded.

Shivappa said that a complaint about the incident had been filed with the Superintendent of Police demanding action against PSI Vikas Gowda for the illegality. The boycott would continue he added.

Former president of the Advocates' Association P R Venkatareddy spoke and urged senior police officers to ensure that no such incident occurs in the future.
