Got any black money back from Switzerland, Rahul asks PM

Stepping up offensive, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi whether he got black money back from Switzerland, a key electoral promise made by the BJP.

"Dear PM, Welcome back from Switzerland. Quick reminder about your promise on Black Money. Youth in India were wondering whether you got any back with you in your plane," Rahul said on Twitter within hours of Modi's return from Davos after inaugurating the World Economic Forum.

Bringing back black money in tax havens was a key electoral promise of the BJP for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

In 2016, India and Switzerland signed a joint declaration that would allow the former to receive financial information of accounts held by Indians in Swiss banks automatically from September 2019.

On Tuesday, as Modi was hard-selling India at Davos, Rahul Gandhi had fired a fresh salvo asking him to also tell world leaders why 1% of Indians owned 73% of the country's wealth.

"Dear PM, Welcome to Switzerland! Please tell DAVOS why 1% of India's population gets 73% of its wealth," he said on Twitter.

"I'm attaching a report for your ready reference," the Congress president said referring to a survey by international rights group Oxfam.
