In a revelation that has startled even the staunch devotees of Goddess Kanaka Durga, the presiding deity of Vijayawada, the new executive officer of the temple said that the goddess appeared in her dreams and advised her on the management of the temple, which in recent times witnessed a series of troubles, including allegations of Tantric pooja.

Senior IAS officer M Padma, addressing the press after taking over the temple administration on Monday, said that Goddess Kanaka Durga advised her to study and adopt the best practices followed at various temples, especially the Tirupati Balaji temple. "The very night I came to know about my new assignment, ammavaru (goddess) appeared in my dreams and advised me," she said. Padma said she will provide hassle-free darshan to devotees following the advice of the goddess. She also said she would use technology to improve services to devotees.

Padma, serving as the managing director of the Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Welfare Corporation Limited, has also served as Hyderabad chief rationing officer, besides in the departments of land records, rural development, social welfare and tribal welfare.
