Last Updated 06 February 2018, 19:27 IST

Tenders for the Bidadi Smart City project will be called soon as the process of developing a master plan will be completed soon, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Replying to a question by N A Haris (Congress), George said the project, being executed by the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) under the work-live-play concept, will go a long way in decongesting the state capital.

He said as a long-term plan to decongest Bengaluru, eight clusters and four development nodes will be developed around Bengaluru. The clusters include Ramanagaram-Channapatna, Bidadi-Harohalli, Nelamangala-Peenya, Dobbspet-Nelamangala, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli-Yelahanka, Hoskote-Krishnarajapuram, Jigani-Electronics City-Bommasandra-Attibele. The nodes include Anekal, Kanakapura, Magadi and Vijayapura.

Replying to another query by S N Subba Reddy (Ind), George said the government was committed to completing the peripheral ring road linking Tumakuru Road with Hosur Road. He said the cost of the project has shot up to Rs 11,950 crore from the original estimate of Rs 5,800 crore, largely due to the huge compensation to be paid to land owners following the new Land Acquisition Act. He said the government was exploring various means of funding the project.
