RGUHS counselling begins today

Go ahead with the counselling process: HC
Last Updated 25 April 2010, 18:10 IST

The counselling will begin with in-service candidates followed by persons with disability. According to RGUHS Registrar Dr Vasanth Kumar after concluding counselling for students with disability, counselling will begin for post graduate courses in dental stream.

However, the in-service candidates had approached the High Court regarding the weightage that would be accorded to doctors in service. Weightage given to in-service doctors on contract and permanent doctors is the bone of contention.

As many as 2,500 doctors on contract have been deployed in remote areas of the State and those with more than five years of service are eligible to obtain weightage, as prescribed by the government.

The permanent doctors have approached the High Court seeking annulment of weightage given to doctors on contract.

Dr Vasanth Kumar said that hearing of the case has been scheduled for Monday, however the HC has not given any orders to discontinue the counselling process.

“The HC has directed the university to proceed with the counselling but has restrained it from issuing allotment orders to in-service candidates in the first round of counselling. The candidates will be allowed to choose the seats and block it,” he said.

The original documents and certificates will be verified in the second and final round of counselling. Appropriate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth functioning of counselling, the registrar said.
