Former MP Varkala Radhakrishnan dead

A former Kerala assembly Speaker, Varkala made his mark as an able Parliamentarian by raising not just Kerala’s issues but as a member who was well-versed in the Constitution. Radhakrishnan was also elected to the state assembly four times from Varkala and served as Speaker of the House between 1987 and 1991 when the Nayanar government was in power.

Radhakrishnan was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital after he was hit by a lorry while he was on a morning walk. He suffered fracture in the ribs, which consequently affected the functioning of his respiratory system, doctors said. His condition deteriorated last night and he died at 9 am. He is survived by wife, son and two daughters.
