Suraj has no regrets about 'Kahi'

Actor Suraj Gowda's upcoming movie 'Snehave Preethi' has completed post-production and is awaiting the Censor Board's certification. But it isn't just this that is making him smile. He believes that his latest project 'Amar Chitra Katha' is bound to get a lot of attention. In a candid chat with Tini Sara Anien, he talks about his role in the new movie and about being an actor.

Tell us a bit about 'Amar Chitra Katha'.

The film is a suspense-thriller and is being shot mostly in a village setup. There are parts of the movie which will be shot in the city too. Like any other thriller, the movie will keep the audience at the edge of their seats. The highlight of the movie is that one will not understand the difference between what is and what is not.

How exciting is your role?

For an actor, every role is exciting. I always wanted to enact diverse characters and I have been blessed with varied subjects till now. In 'Amar Chitra Katha', I play someone who hails from a village but is well-educated. He is the voice of the people and helps sort out issues in the village.

Does the film have anything to do with the namesake comic?

The movies name can be interpreted in as many ways as possible. It could be Amar and Chitra's story or anything else. I assure you that it has nothing to do with the comic though (laughs).

You've acted in thriller movies before. How different is this?

While I played dark shades in 'Kahi' as well is in 'Silicon City', this is not a negative character. My character stands up for things which are lawfully right. I am the right person here. That itself makes the experience different.

Are you similar to any of your characters?

I am not like any of the characters I have played. I don't sound or look like them too. They are representations of what I see around me and the homework I did to slip into each one of them.    

According to you, what makes a movie a hit?

The box office collection a movie draws is what makes it a success or not. Good criticism can make the actor or artists involved feel good but it stops there.

'Kahi' drew a lot of attention but it didn't run in the theatres for long. Do you regret acting in the movie?

Absolutely not. In fact, I don't regret working in any film. 'Kahi' was a phenomenal film and was given a State Award because of what it was. I learnt a lot of things from the movie and am happy that I was a part of it. Demonetisation is what made it difficult for 'Kahi' to create an impact.

There's a new actor entering Sandalwood with every new release. How can these fresh faces in the industry prove themselves?

A confident approach, a good script and an awesome team to work with can help anyone attain success.

What are you looking forward to this year?

Some awesome box-office hits. After all, that is what every actor is looking for.
