While the city observed 'Earth Hour', a worldwide movement of turning off non-essential electric lights for an hour, Bescom has gone a step ahead with intermittent power cuts in several parts of the city.

Several areas witnessed unscheduled power outages on Saturday, leaving residents to face the sweltering heat.

Residents of BTM Layout experienced intermittent power cuts throughout the day.

"It is nothing new in this city. Along with summer comes frequent power cuts. We have to bear it," said Rohini Kumar, an entrepreneur and resident of BTM Layout 2nd stage.

Bharati Shekhar, a retired bank employee and resident of Vijaya Bank Layout in Bilekahalli, said: "It has been happening for the past several weeks. We have to schedule tasks like operating the washing machine or the mixer grinder based on the power cuts. It causes inconvenience."

Residents of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar also experienced intermittent power cuts. It was the same scenario in Bengaluru South, including Banashankari and Basavanagudi.

The Bescom helpline was unreachable to register complaints.
