The High Court of Karnataka on Monday deferred the hearing of the petition seeking disqualification of seven JD(S) MLAs, to April 11.

Two JD(S) legislators C N Balakrishna B B Ningaiah have filed a petition seeking disqualification of seven rebel MLAs who had defied the party's whip in the 2016 elections to the Rajya Sabha, and voted for Congress candidates. During the hearing, the counsel for the petitioners submitted that the MLAs in question had already resigned and there was no use of the Speaker disqualifying them now.

Senior counsel Jayakumar S Patil, appearing for the Speaker, submitted that the Speaker had not passed any order in this regard and sought time to file objections.

Justice Raghavendra S Chauhan adjourned the hearing to April 11.
